Lawrence County Farm Bureau President Jeremy Pendleton and his wife Rachel were able to slip away from the farm for a day to take a few of Lawrence County Youth up to Jefferson City for MO Farm Bureau Youth Leadership Day to meet with lawmakers and see legislation in action! Students attending were Kiley Jenkins from Mt. Vernon, Martin Oczkus from Marionville, and Gabby Lopez-Padron from Aurora. These three students had a great experience! Thank You Jeremy and Rachel for taking the time to invest in our area youth!!

Boyd Arthur was a cherished Lawrence County resident and great friend to many folks. He was a long time loyal Lawrence County Farm Bureau member, serving on the Board of Directors, and many years as County President. He was always a joy to visit with and everyone will certainly miss him. We ask that you please keep Boyd's family in your thoughts and prayers in the coming weeks ahead.

Our second 2024 Lawrence County Farm Bureau Agriculture Hall of Fame inductee was Weaver Forest. Weaver will most likely not see this post, but we want to honor his induction last fall anyway.

Weaver Forest settled in Pleasant Ridge in 1966 to develop his cattle operation. A native of Oklahoma, Forest currently operates a cow/calf operation featuring Senepol-influenced cattle. Forest is an innovator and has been an early-adopter of many agriculture practices, including rotational grazing, artificial insemination, and utilizing poultry litter for fertilization as well as many others. He has been a cooperator with MU Extension for decades and was one of the first Show-Me Select Heifer Program participants. He utilizes soil and forage testing extensively in his operation. Active on the Lawrence County Farm Bureau board of directors for a number of years, Forest is also active in the Southwest Missouri Cattlemen’s Association. A retired public educator, Forest continues to use innovative practices in his operation today.

In honor of National Ag Day, let's reintroduce our Lawrence County Farm Bureau Agriculture Hall of Fame inductees from 2024. We begin with Ben Fizette.

Ben Fizette is originally from Gasconade County Missouri where his family had a row crop and hay operation. Ben earned a B.S. Degree in Agronomy from Southwest Missouri State University in 2000. He spent the next two decades working in the seed, chemical, fertilizer, and feed business for an independent grain elevator, MFA Inc., and Land O' Lakes Inc.

As a former FFA member, his passion for agriculture led him to leave the corporate world and earn his Master's Degree in Agriculture Education from Missouri State University to become a high school Ag Teacher. Ben spent his first 2 years as the Ag Teacher and FFA Advisor for the Greenfield School District and is currently the Ag Teacher and FFA Advisor for the Sarcoxie School District.

Ben has served as the county president of the Southwest Missouri Cattlemen’s Association as well as the Lawrence County Farm Bureau. In 2023, Ben was recognized by the Sarcoxie FFA with an Honorary Chapter FFA Degree. Ben also received the University of Missouri Extension Leader Honor Roll in 2020.

Ben and his wife Stephanie, along with their 3 children reside on a 340-acre farm near Avilla where they raise corn, soybeans, hay, and occasionally background a few stocker cattle.
