Be honest… if something happened to your house tonight, would you know exactly what to grab first? Since it's Disaster Preparedness Month, here are some tips to stay prepared!
Home inventory: Take photos/video of your belongings, especially big-ticket items. Store it somewhere other than just your phone.
Know your policy: Do you know what your homeowners policy actually covers? Meet with your agent once a year to keep everything up to date.
Emergency contacts: Keep your insurance agent, utility companies, family contacts, etc. somewhere accessible if your phone is unavailable.
Important documents: Keep copies of policies, IDs, medical info, deeds/titles, etc. somewhere secure.
After a disaster: Don’t throw away damaged property before documenting it unless it’s a safety hazard. Photos/videos can be VERY useful for a claim.
Update your coverage: New roof? New appliances? New jewelry? Finished the basement? Bought a camper? Those changes can matter.
