Join the us next Thursday to view preliminary designs, ask questions and provide input on the proposed North Street Trail.

The City of Mt. Sterling approved an application for an Illinois Transportation Enhancement Program (ITEP) grant for the North Street Trail which was submitted in September 2024. ITEP grants provide 80% of project costs and TFF plans to cover the required 20% match if the City is awarded the ITEP grant. The North Street Trail was a part of the original Trailways Plan approved by the County and City. It would be a 10-foot-wide concrete path that would run parallel to North Street in existing City right-of-way, mostly on the north side of the street. This will create a beautiful, through-town path for families, walkers, and bikes. It would also create an east/west connection from the new Neylon Farms subdivision to Brown County middle and high schools. The trail would provide easy connections to the Clark Park Loop Trail, St. Mary School, the uptown Mt. Sterling business district, Brown County Courthouse, John Wood Community College, and Tastee Treet, among other wonderful destinations. The total cost of the project is $1.9M with TFF committing the $385,853 required local portion. The ITEP grant would cover the remaining portion. The City will find out whether they are awarded the ITEP grant this spring.
