Back to school, backed by community! 🍎

As kids head back to the classroom, our Winterville branch — with help from Pitt County branches and customers — collected a great haul of school supplies for the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Coastal Plain.

26 pencil pouches, 66 glue sticks, 39 folders, 78 packs of pencils and pens, and so much more will be shared across all the Pitt County clubs, giving local students what they need for a strong start to the year.

The Hurricanes brought the Stanley Cup back to North Carolina, and Southern Bank had another reason to celebrate.

For every game the Carolina Hurricanes won during the 2025-2026 hockey season, we donated $500 to the Foundation to support children's education and health: $28,500 total.

Wednesdays are for wins! And our favorite type of win is the one where we give back to our communities.

Earlier this summer, our Fremont, Kenly & Pine Level teams teamed up to make food and hygiene care baskets for REACH Mentoring Ministries in Johnston County. REACH (Remember Encouragement Always Changes Hearts) supports local foster families and at-risk children.

We were so happy to help donate to this cause and make a difference in a child’s life. Way to go, team!

Meet Susan Clissold! For 21 years, Susan has served businesses and clients across the Outer Banks market, and it shows in the relationships she’s built along the way.

For Susan, banking is about making people feel welcomed, informed, and supported in their financial goals. “I love the relationships I have built over the years with my clients,” Susan shared. “I enjoy helping them succeed and being a small part of their success.”

Outside the office, Susan stays busy with cooking, yoga, golf, and cheering on college football. She’s also a big Broadway fan, having seen more than 50 shows!
