It’s not every day you get to watch history being painted — literally!

We recently had the privilege of watching artist Max Dowdle bring our 125th anniversary mural to life in downtown Mount Olive. Watch this time-lapse video to see the mural come together!

We designed this mural to honor our history and weave in symbolism from both North Carolina and Virginia, paying tribute to the two states and the communities within them that have shaped Southern Bank’s story since 1901.

Earlier this month, our Wilmington team joined volunteers across the Cape Fear region to support Habitat for Humanity’s Women Build 2026 initiative.

Women Build is all about communities coming together to help local families achieve the dream of homeownership. We're so grateful to stand alongside the many volunteers, partners, and supporters who make this work possible across the Cape Fear region.

A great Carolina Hurricanes season is great for fans. It's even better for kids! ❤️

We’re proud to partner with the Carolina Hurricanes Foundation on the Wins for Kids initiative — a program that connects the excitement of Canes hockey with meaningful support for children across our communities. For every Canes regular-season win, Southern Bank donates to the Foundation to fund education and health programs that help kids thrive.

Last week, we attended the game to celebrate the $28,500 raised through the partnership. That total reflects a season’s worth of wins on the ice, which translates directly into resources for kids off it, from classroom support to health initiatives that reach families throughout the region.

The Canes are back on the ice tonight, and we’ll be cheering right along with you! Giving back to the communities we serve is what we’re all about, and this partnership is one of our favorite ways to do it.

Wednesdays are for wins! And our favorite type of win is the one where we give back to our communities.

Recently, our Kinston team volunteered with Backpack Buddies, a local organization that ensures local students have access to nonperishable food outside normal school hours. Every week, a dedicated team of 8–10 volunteers packs more than 150 bags for distribution, which makes a big difference in the lives of Kinston kids.

Our team volunteered to unpack and organize incoming items, helping save valuable time for the volunteers arriving the next day.
