As combines begin to roll, auger wagons and semis hauling grain, and farmers move fields, please be cautious, be patient, and yield to large equipment. Road laws still apply - do not pass in a double yellow, or a solid yellow line on your side of the road!

We all have places to be, and families waiting for us at home. Following a tractor at 20 mph is the equivalent of waiting through 5 stop lights. Stay safe and remember our farmers this harvest season!

Registration is now open for the 2026 Young Leader Southern Illinois Ag Tour, which will take place on Saturday, August 29. The event will start at Walker's Bluff Casino Resort and offers Young Leaders the opportunity to network with fellow members while exploring a variety of agricultural operations across Southern Illinois.
Participants will begin the day with keynote presentations from IFB President Philip Nelson and Prairie Farms CEO Matt McClelland and updates from Illinois Farm Bureau leadership before selecting one of two tour tracks:
Agronomy Track
SIU Farm Tour

Diversified Agriculture Track
StarView Vineyards
Rolling Oak Alpaca Ranch

The day will conclude with an evening at Flamm's Orchard featuring a tour of the orchard and facilities, dinner, networking, and live entertainment.

As Americans prepare to celebrate the Fourth of July, and mark the nation’s 250th anniversary, many families will gather in a familiar way: around the grill with burgers, sides, lemonade and dessert.

According to the American Farm Bureau Federation’s 2026 Summer Cookout Cost Survey, a classic Independence Day cookout for 10 people will cost $73.82, or about $7.38 per person. That is an increase of $2.90, or 4%, from last year.

The basket includes summer cookout staples such as cheeseburgers, chicken breasts, pork chops, potato chips, pork and beans, fresh strawberries, homemade potato salad ingredients, fresh-squeezed lemonade ingredients, chocolate chip cookies and ice cream.

While this year’s total is the highest since Farm Bureau began conducting the summer cookout survey in 2016, the increase closely reflects broader inflation. The cost of the cookout basket rose about 4%, while overall inflation in the United States increased 4.2% over the 12 months ending in May. That means families are seeing higher prices at the grocery store, but this year’s cookout cost is generally moving in line with the broader economy.

This year’s lineup features Zach Top, Treaty Oak Revival, Jesse Murph, The Red Clay Strays, and many other artists.
