⭐ PSA: A Word About “Ghosting” in Business
(A message from someone who still believes in respect, communication, and follow‑through.)
Lately, I’ve noticed a growing trend in business that I never saw in my 60 years on this planet — ghosting. And I’m not talking about dating. I’m talking about people who reach out for help, take up hours of time, energy, and expertise… and then vanish without a word.
In the past few weeks alone, I’ve had new insurance referrals and potential buyers for my home spend significant time with me — asking questions, reviewing quotes, going over health history, having me prepare applications, or scheduling home showings — only to disappear without so much as a simple, “Hey, I went another direction.”
I put a lot of care into what I do. When someone comes to me for insurance, I take the time to understand their needs and health history so I can determine whether I can genuinely help them. If I can’t, I tell them upfront — because I respect their time. But lately, I’ve spent an hour or more preparing quotes, answering questions, and even submitting applications on my end… only for the person to vanish when it’s time for them to sign.
Meanwhile, I have other clients — loyal clients who value my time — waiting for me. Clients who appreciate that I answer my phone after 5 PM and on weekends, when many in my industry shut down until Monday morning. Clients who have been with me since the beginning and continue to send referrals because they know I go the extra mile.
And it’s not just insurance. It’s happening with my home sale, too. I clean, prep, and rearrange my entire day for showings — sometimes even canceling Airbnb bookings, which costs me income — only for buyers to “ghost” without feedback, a thank you, or even basic courtesy. My realtor, a young mom of three, also loses time she could be spending with her family because someone couldn’t be bothered to communicate.
Here’s the truth:
A simple message goes a long way.
“Hey, I found a policy elsewhere.”
“We chose a different home.”
“Thank you for your time.”
That’s it. That’s all it takes.
Respect is free. Communication is free. And both matter — especially to those of us who take pride in our work and genuinely care about the people we serve.
So please, if you reach out to someone for help — whether it’s insurance, real estate, or any service — remember that we have people counting on us, too. We juggle schedules, rearrange our days, and pour our energy into helping you. If you’re not going to follow through, just say so. It’s kinder than silence.
To my wonderful clients who DO respect my time: thank you. You’re the reason I love what I do.
To the rest…
If you can’t communicate or follow through — kindly, go away.
LOL. End of rant.
