Parks and Recreation to Host Summer Extravaganza

The City of Morrison Parks and Recreation Department has planned the first annual "Summer Extravaganza" for Saturday, July 30, 2016, from noon to 8:00 p.m. The event will be held at Morrison Sports Complex, east of the City at Route 30 and Bishop Road, Morrison, IL.
This one-day event includes fun activities and events for all ages. Free kids' activities include
• obstacle course
• human soccer balls
• bounce houses (free will donation will be taken to offset expenses)
• kids' bean bag tournament
• face painting
• concessions
• ice cream eating contest (sponsored by Happy Joe's of Morrison)
• more!
Adult activities include a bean bag tournament, a blind-draw volleyball tournament, and a beer garden. Admission to the beer garden is $5. Cost of the bags and volleyball tournaments is $25 each or $40 to enter both. Entry fee for the tournaments includes a $5 meal ticket and entry to the beer garden ($10 value.) Half of the entry fees will be returned as prize money.
There will also be food eating contests. For all food eating contests, please go to the respective restaurants to sign up.

We are also excited to announce that the hometown favorite band, "30 West," will perform from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m., with fireworks to follow at approximately 9:30.

4:00 p.m.: Blazin' Wings Challenge
6:00 p.m.: Hot Dog Eating Contest
4:00 to 8:00 p.m.: Live music by "30 West"
Ice Cream Eating Contests throughout the day
Approximately 9:30 p.m.: Fireworks (weather permitting)

Chamber to Hold First Annual Movie in the Park

Morrison Chamber of Commerce and event sponsors Co-Z Corner, Inc. and Sterling Federal Bank are pleased to announce the first annual "Movie in the Park." This free event will be held Wednesday, July 27, 2016, at the Morrison Sports Complex, located just east of Morrison at Route 30 and Bishop Road, Morrison, IL.
Enjoy the summer evening with a family-friendly, animated movie, "Zootopia" (PG rated.) It will begin at dusk (approximately 8:30 p.m.) The Disney film is sure to be a hit with the entire family.
From the largest elephant to the smallest shrew, the city of Zootopia is a mammal metropolis, where various animals live and thrive. When Judy Hopps (Ginnifer Goodwin) becomes the first rabbit to join the Police force, she quickly learns how tough it is to enforce the law.
Determined to prove herself, Judy jumps at the opportunity to solve a mysterious case. Unfortunately, that means working with Nick Wilde (Jason Bateman), a wily fox who makes her job even harder.
Load up the car with the kids, lawn chairs, blankets, and a flashlight for a free evening at the movies under the stars. Concessions, including popcorn, will be available for purchase.
Please remember smoking is not permitted at the Complex, and all children must be accompanied by an adult.

WHOA "Birdies for Charity" Fundraiser

Do you enjoy helping a wonderful organizations like WHOA--White Oaks Therapeutic Equestrian Center? Then this fundraiser is a great opportunity for you!
The steps are simple.
1. Fill out a pledge card from the WHOA barn at the Whiteside County Fairgrounds or from any volunteer or student/parent.
2. Drop it off (with or without payment) in the payment box at the WHOA barn at the Whiteside County Fairgrounds, by Tuesday, August 1, 2016.
3. Go to https://www.birdiesforcharity.com and choose "donate now." Select White Oaks to complete your donation.
All pledges go to WHOA. In addition, the John Deere Classic golf tournament takes its annual profits and adds a second bonus check of 5-10% to our Morrison organization.

Bike Giveaway at Evening Farmers' Market

Mark your calendars! Friends of the Parks announces that a lucky youngster will ride away from the Morrison Evening Farmers' Market on Wednesday, July 27, 2016, with a brand new bicycle and helmet. The Market will be held downtown on Main Street from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. You need not be present to win.
At the Market, Friends of the Parks will also offer pre-sales of Coffee City fresh-roasted and flavored coffee beans and gourmet teas. The 10 ounce, vacuum-sealed, foil packages of coffee are offered in seven flavors, including everyone's favorite, Hazelnut. Choose a few for yourself, or find a few to have on hand for that perfect gift.
If your preference is tea, you can choose from six flavors. The tea is packed with 25 tea bags in a similar vacuum-sealed bag to ensure freshness.
The coffee and tea will be pre-sold and delivered to you by the middle of August. This method is used, because the 100% Arabica coffee beans are fresh-roasted daily and flavored to order, then drop shipped to us directly from the Coffee City facility.
Friends of the Parks' booth will be located at the intersection of Main and Genesee Streets, on the south side of the street. All proceeds from the sale of the coffee and tea will be used to enhance the Morrison-Rockwood Recreational Trail.
The Morrison Evening Farmers' Market is sponsored by Farmers National Bank.
