Ugh - I received another notification that my personal information was hacked in a data breach, this time from a medical office, last time AT&T. That is the 4 times, in 6 months. Luckily, I had already placed a freeze on my credit reports. I suggest you do the same. It could potentially save you the huge head ache of having to deal with ID Theft. Each credit bureau is a bit different and you need to create account with Experian, Equifax and Trans Union.

Today is Administrative Professionals Day. I would like to thank myself for all the work I do preparing my files, keeping my office organized, responding to calls and emails and just being ray of sunlight on a daily basis. Now, to go fire myself as my IT guy.

Although financial advisors, CPAs and attorneys step in for many financial needs, a "daily money manager" can help with the basics of household finances like bill-paying and organization. Some of these professionals are certified, but they face no regulatory oversight.

I believe this should be a requirement for all high schoolers before graduation. Comment below if you had a class in high school that prepared you for “adulting,” I did, mine was called Math for Daily Living and it was one of the most practical classes I took in school.

High school students in North Carolina will soon be required to take a personal finance course to graduate.

I was recently speaking with a client. They had a new debt and had forgotten to make the first payment. They said, "too late now I have to pay the late charge, I'll just wait until next month to make the payment." My reaction, NO! YOU STILL NEED TO MAKE THE PAYMENT! Even though you may be late on a payment, it is crucial to make your payment each month prior to the next payment due date to prevent a 30 day late and a derogatory mark on your credit report. It is bad enough to take the financial hit but the derogatory mark stays on your credit report for years and is 35% of your credit score or FICO, the largest contributing factor to your FICO. You must make a payment every month to every bill. Of course making your payments on time every month is the best but even if it occasionally slips your mind and one is late don't skip it until next month because it technically is not considered late until it hits 30 days late!

As some of you know, I am currently at a FinCon 19 in Washington DC, continuing my education. This event is wonderful, overwhelming and inspiring! One of the events I participated in today was a community service project filling 600 Birthdays in a Bag for DC foster children. What an awesome event!
