First Federal of Greene County and First Greene Mortgage were overjoyed to take part last week in the official launch of Project Balloon! 🎈

Project Balloon is an initiative from our friends at Growing Up Greene in partnership with WVU Medicine Golisano Children's. The program allows hospital staff to purchase a balloon for any child who has been hospitalized for longer than 48 hours, with a special focus to children from Greene County or those in the county's foster care system.

The idea was one easy way to float hope to children who may be scared or sad about staying in the hospital and who may not have many visitors or outside support.

Our Association recently contributed $5,000 toward the Project Balloon fund, which has received many other donations over the past year as Growing Up Greene Executive Director Aaron Houser has worked to get it off the ground. We are also committed to supporting this program for the long-term and bringing some joy to our local children.

Several of our employees gathered on Feb. 6, 2026, to celebrate the Project Balloon launch with staff from the hospital and Growing Up Greene. Also pictured are Miss Rain Day 2025 Camryn Hawfield, who works with Growing Up Greene as her service project, and the organization’s therapy dog, Coalbie. 💙💛
