The September meeting of WoodmenLife Chapter 1513 will be held at noon on Thursday, September 10, 2026, in the meeting room of Sagebrush Restaurant, Morehead City. A representative from Special Olympics is expected to attend the meeting to accept the donation voted on at the August meeting. Please try to arrive 15 minutes early so we can get started on time. Remember to bring a nonperishable item for our food collection. All Chapter 1513 members are invited to attend, but please RSVP as space is limited.

Seven Chapter 1513 members attended the Habitat for Humanity Casino Night Fundraiser on August 14 at the Swansboro Rotary Civic Center. No one won any prizes, but we enjoyed the food, entertainment and games. Chapter 1513 was proud to be one of the event sponsors and support Habitat for Humanity.

On July 9, Carrie Huber, President of Misplaced Mutts, made a presentation at our Chapter Meeting about the new Misplaced Mutts Veterinary Clinic located at 211 Atlantic Beach Causeway and the goals of the organization to increase spaying, neutering and vaccinating dogs and cats, and to rescue and foster dogs for adoption. Over 4,000 dogs have been adopted out since 2017 when Misplaced Mutts began.

On July 15, Tim Wall, Chapter President, Susan Day and Peggy Horrell visited the new clinic and presented a check to Misplaced Mutts for $1,000. Please check out the website misplacedmutts.com to see all the latest news, and you can also donate on the site. There is also a list of physical items such as dog food, toys, crates, and cleaning supplies that are always needed. Volunteers and fosters are needed as well.

On July 4, 2026, Susan Davis (right), Vice President of Chapter 1513, presented a Betsy Ross 250th Anniversary flag to the Newport Fire Department. A brief comment was made about how the original flag was created in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in 1776 and how it represented the birth of our nation. The crew was thanked for their service. Following the presentation, they demonstrated their skill in folding the flag. (The very noticeable firetruck pictured on the right is 79 years old!)
