🚨 🚨 If your home has been impacted by flooding or severe storms, here are a few important resources to know about. 🏠❤️
1️⃣: Make sure your damage is reported.
Indiana uses damage reports to understand the extent of a disaster and determine what recovery steps may be needed.
For counties and storm events currently activated for reporting through Indiana 211, residents can:

🌐 Submit a report through Indiana 211 online
If your county or storm is not currently listed for Indiana 211 damage reporting, contact your County Emergency Management Agency (EMA) directly.
2️⃣: Before clean up…Document as much as possible.
Take photos 📸 and videos 🎥 of damage before removing items whenever it is safe to do so. This might include:
• Water lines
• Flooring, drywall and walls
• Furniture and appliances
• Personal belongings
• Structural damage
• Exterior damage
Keep receipts for cleanup materials, repairs, temporary housing and other storm-related expenses 💵
Once you’ve documented the damage, safely begin drying and removing wet materials to help prevent additional damage.
3️⃣: Check what assistance is actually available for your county.
Indiana’s State Disaster Relief Fund may provide assistance following certain disasters to eligible residents who are uninsured or underinsured. It is not automatically available after every storm, and assistance is tied to qualifying disaster events and jurisdictions. The fund is intended for eligible damage involving a person’s primary residence.
The Indiana Department of Homeland Security (IDHS) maintains current information about damage reporting, disaster declarations and available recovery resources.
🇺🇸 FEMA
FEMA Individual Assistance is also not automatically available after a storm or flood.
If a Presidential disaster declaration includes Individual Assistance for your county, eligible homeowners and renters may qualify for assistance with certain disaster-related needs, including home repairs, temporary housing and personal property losses.

⛑️ SBA DISASTER ASSISTANCE.
Despite its name, the U.S. Small Business Administration’s disaster loan program isn’t only for businesses.
When SBA disaster assistance has been authorized for an affected area, eligible homeowners and renters may apply for low-interest disaster loans for qualifying home and personal property losses. (Unlike grants, SBA disaster assistance is a loan and must be repaid)
Don’t assume there’s nothing you can do and please share this with others who may be dealing with storm or flood damage ⛈️ 🏚️ Sometimes simply knowing where to start can make a difficult situation a little easier to navigate.
