Farm and Land Owners in the Chesapeake Bay watershed. Please complete this survey by June 30.

Virginia Farm Bureau is helping document voluntary conservation practices used on farms in the Chesapeake Bay watershed—and we need your help.

Have you implemented practices like nutrient management, cover crops, stream exclusion, rotational grazing or other BMPs? Many of these efforts go unreported. This quick, voluntary survey helps ensure the conservation work you’ve already done counts toward Virginia’s water quality goals.

During Ag Literacy Week, Virginia Cooperative Extension - Highland County Extension Agent and Board Member Kari Sponaugle and Virginia Cooperative Extension - Bath County program educator Jordan Alexander visited Highland and Millboro Elementary schools to read "Farm Boots" to grades K through 2. Copies of the book, Virginia Agriculture maps and activity guides were gifted to each class. Thanks to the Highland-Bath Farm Bureau board for sponsoring Virginia Agriculture in the Classroom books again this year. 📚 🐄 👢 🍎

USDA has launched a national campaign promoting the updated “Product of USA” label, which can now only be used on meat from animals born, raised, harvested and processed in the United States. The change helps ensure fairness for domestic farmers and gives consumers clearer information at the grocery store.

Here in Virginia, the Virginia Verified Beef program launched in 2025 does the same at the state level by certifying meat that is fully born, raised and processed within the commonwealth. The goal: support local livestock farmers, bolster our in state supply chain and increase truth in labeling.

Clear labeling helps ensure the value of Virginia-raised livestock isn’t overshadowed by imported products. When consumers choose local, they directly support the farm families in their communities.

Both the federal and Virginia programs work together to boost transparency, strengthen rural economies and empower consumers to choose truly local meat.

Attention Bath County Farmers - give local law enforcement a head's up to help identify wayward animals. Your contact info and animal ID descriptions can help get animals back home quickly and safely.

***ATTENTION FARMERS***

We ask you to fill out this livestock registration form.
This is for our deputies when they are dispatched to livestock that are out of their fencing and we need to get in contact with the owner/caretaker. This saves us from contacting the wrong person at late hours and helps us have a faster response time getting these animals back in their fencing.

You can call The Dispatch Officer at 540-839-2375 and speak with a dispatcher about filling out the paperwork, stop by and fill it out, or print this form and email it back into the listed emails.

Please pass this along to all the farmers in Bath County.
We greatly appreciate your help and hope to receive some forms.
