Anyone turning 65 om the next 6 months can get a Medicare Supplement plan.

When someone turns 65 or enrolls in Medicare Part B for the first time (whichever comes later) they become eligible for the Medigap Open Enrollment Period.

During this period any and all Medicare Supplement plans must accept you regardless of previous health status.

Effective January 1, 2019, the Individual Responsibility Coverage Mandate Penalty will be repealed.

Since 2014, taxpayers have been required to maintain Minimum Essential Coverage (MEC) for each month, qualify for a coverage exemption, or pay a penalty when filing their federal income tax return.

The individual mandate remains in effect for 2017 and 2018. The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) has indicated that individual tax returns filed electronically in 2018 will not be accepted unless the coverage requirements have been addressed; paper filings that do not address these requirements may be suspended until additional information is submitted, and refunds may be delayed.

Model Notices Previously Expired on December 31, 2016

The U.S. Department of Labor (DOL) has extended the effective date of its model Employer CHIP Notice, General Notice of COBRA Rights, and COBRA Election Notice through December 31, 2019. Previously, these model notices expired on December 31, 2016.

No other changes have been made to these notices beyond the expiration date. For the latest guidance regarding these notices, please visit the DOL's Children's Health Insurance Program Reauthorization Act and COBRA Continuation Coverage webpages or contact the DOL directly at 1-866-487-2365.
