Welcome to the team, Geoff Rusnak!

Geoff is one of our new Financial Representatives that joined us this year. He is from the North Huntington area and is an avid hockey fan. After high school, Geoff attended Duquesne University and was a Communications major. He decided to join Northwestern Mutual because of the advancement opportunities and the desire to be his own boss.

Geoff is looking forward to “helping his clients achieve financial security and be able to do what they want in life without having to worry about money.”

As a whole, Geoff sees his practice expanding these next few years where he continues to help his clients, as well as communities as a whole around the Pittsburgh area.

Northwestern Mutual has done it again!

Vault, an organization best known for providing in-depth intelligence and research on what it’s like to work in an industry, job, or company, has awarded Northwestern Mutual’s internship as one of the best 100 programs in the country for the 25th consecutive year.

We are number 15 overall and Top 3 among the Financial Services Firms. More specifically, Vault has awarded us Top 10 in Career Development and Top 10 in Employment Prospects. Our training and mentorship and opportunities for networking was also top ranked in our industry.

Vaults’ research comes from surveys from more than 11,000 current and former interns and educators to evaluate over 100 different internship programs. That information is used to select the programs they feel provide the best all-around experience. Factors such as quality of life, compensation, career development, full-time employment prospects, and diversity are included in the study.

Meet Aaron Coleman, M.S., Financial Representative at Northwestern Mutual!

Aaron was born and raised in McKeesport, PA. He attended Lincoln University where he earned his Bachelor’s of Science in Health Science. After graduating in 2012, Aaron then went on to complete his Master’s in Athletic Administration at Western Kentucky University in 2017. Aaron lists his biggest accomplishments as completing not only his Bachelor’s degree but also his Master’s degree. He is also a proud member of the Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity.

Aaron joined Northwestern Mutual in the summer of 2020. He chose Northwestern Mutual because he believed the company would give him the best opportunity to succeed as a professional. As a Financial Representative, Aaron wants to provide his clients “with a detailed understanding of their financial situation and help educate them on areas that may be overlooked or misunderstood.” Aaron’s ultimate goals his clients are to achieve financial security and “have the best experience possible while working with him.”

Aaron is a proud father of his daughter, Aariona, who is seven years old.

Northwestern Mutual was founded in 1857, over 160 years ago. We've survived through the highs and lows of our world's history. The tragedy of the Titanic was a notable part in our company's past.

13 policyowners perished when the Titanic sunk on Sunday, April 14th, 1912. Northwestern Mutual paid more in benefits than any other life insurance company. Our benefits totaled over $500,000, which would have the purchasing power of over $13 million today. In the following years, life insurance sales would increase dramatically.

A pivotal point in not only our world's history, but also Northwestern Mutual's.

Today, we wanted to highlight Molly Dinnin Haines, one of our Financial Advisors and a career changer!

Molly grew up in Oakmont, Pennsylvania, and attended Mercyhurst College. After graduating from Mercyhurst, she went on to become a student at the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York City. She worked at Macy’s in NYC and even got a chance to be in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade!

Eventually, she moved back to Oakmont where she began to work at a bank. Molly would work there for thirteen years where she found her niche of helping people. She said that, “though I enjoyed working at the bank, I felt that I could do more to help my clients.”

Molly was introduced to Northwestern Mutual by a close friend in 2019. Since then, she has been helping her clients reach their personal and professional goals. As Molly puts it, “this opportunity has been and continues to be an amazing experience for me and I know my abilities and talents are being used the way they should be.” As a career changer, Molly describes the transition as “seamless” and felt “more and more comfortable in her decision as training continued.”

Molly currently lives in Oakmont with her husband, Russ, and her two sons, Will, who is 17, and Alex, who is 13.

Meet our new Financial Representative, Zachary Bashour. Zach officially joined us in June after graduating from Saint Vincent College in Latrobe, Pennsylvania.

Zach is originally from New Salem, Pennsylvania. In college, Zach majored in Business Economics and was also a part of the Finance Club and Omicron Delta Epsilon, the International Honor Society for Economics.

“I joined Northwestern Mutual because the company provides the best products to our clients and also allows for numerous career advancement opportunities.”

Zach also wants to “be able to help people achieve financial stability. By doing so, my clients will have peace of mind knowing their families can continue on in an event of a tragedy or loss of a loved one.”

Meet our Financial Representative, Mary Ortega!

Mary was born and raised in Houston, TX and graduated from Sam Houston State University. There, she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Kinesiology.

After school, Mary’s passion for fitness lead her to become a personal trainer for 6 years before joining Northwestern Mutual.

After Hurricane Harvey, Mary decided to move to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, with her sister. Her long-time goal to help people, as well as her desire to be “her own boss,” lead Mary to start a career with Northwestern Mutual.

As a Financial Representative, Mary is looking forward to help guide her clients to reach their goals, and the opportunity to eventually move up in the company to become a leader in the office.

Today, our “Why Wednesday” post features Jon White, our new Financial Representative. Jon is from North Huntingdon, Pennsylvania, and attended Saint Vincent College where he majored in History.

We asked Jon what his “why” was for joining Northwestern Mutual.
“I knew that Northwestern Mutual provided the best planning products available, and that they worked with people of all backgrounds and walks of life. What I didn’t know was that they also provide the best process of financial planning. Every meeting is approached with one goal in mind. Filling the needs of that specific individual. It is that approach that makes the difference.”

Jon also enjoys the freedom to pursue and run his own business. He said best surprise was the support from the leadership team upon arrival as a new representative. “Doors are always open, and questions are always answered.”

Outside of work, Jon enjoys spending time in Pittsburgh with his friends, and coaching basketball as the Assistant Varsity Boys Basketball Coach at Elizabeth Forward High School.
