The Haddad family has a long and significant history in Monroe, Louisiana, particularly in the realm of retail and business. They were prominent business owners, notably in the Haddad's Menswear and later Haddad's department and hardware stores. The family's business ventures played a key role in the commercial development of Monroe, evolving from a small store on DeSiard Street to larger establishments on Fifth and Pine Streets, and eventually to the Avenue of American. Billy Haddad's father started with a store on Desert Street, selling a variety of goods like Boy Scout, ladies', men's, and boys' items, according to a video about the history of Monroe. The family later expanded to a department store at Fifth and Pine, carrying a wide range of merchandise. This move coincided with the arrival of Pennies in the area, and they were the second department store to establish themselves. Beyond clothing, the Haddads also ventured into hardware and appliances. The family's business and contributions have been deeply intertwined with the Monroe community. The Haddad's department store was eventually located at the Avenue of American Development Shopping Center before being replaced by Joseph A. Banks. Billy Haddad, a prominent member of the family, had a long career in retail and later transitioned into real estate and banking, becoming Senior Vice President for Business Development at Origin Bank. Haddad Dooley Bail Bonds, with a strong presence in Monroe, continues the Haddad family's legacy in the area.
