A county resident reported driving by what he thought was a discarded disposable diaper box sitting by the side of the road on Tuesday morning. Imagine his shock at discovering five tiny puppies in that box! Between 1 and 2 pounds, the five appeared to be recently fed, as their bellies were full, and they were not chilled. Best guess is that they are about four weeks old. The good news: the pups are not at the shelter, and appear to be healthy.

Because the circumstances are mysterious, we are hoping for input on their origin from anyone who has information about them. Did mom die? Housing crisis? Health crisis? Family breakup? Job loss?

Regardless, we are going to withhold judgment until we know more. With issues affecting families, it is quite possible
the puppies were placed somewhere where they would be seen easily and rescued on a nice warm day to save their lives. I know not everyone is going to understand or agree— but you don’t know what is going on in some people’s homes at this point. My personal feeling is that someone loved these puppies very much and cared for them, and felt that removing them from a bad situation was the best thing for them. We are trying to stay positive and ask you to do the same.

**Not available for adoption. Not at the shelter. If not reclaimed, pups will be held in care until old enough to be adopted. (9 weeks is the usual age.)
