Commonwealth National Bank Making Wealth Common (for all)!

In 1976, a group of organizers in Mobile, Alabama, established Commonwealth National Bank to meet the needs of individuals and businesses that had previously been denied equal access to financial services.

Today, we remember the courage, sacrifice, and love of country shown by those who never returned home. 🇺🇸

Memorial Day is more than a holiday. It is a day to honor the brave service members who made the ultimate sacrifice for our country, our freedoms, and the communities we call home.

At CNB, our tenets of service, trust, commitment, and community guide how we show up for others. Today, they also remind us to pause with gratitude, respect, and humility for the men and women who gave everything in service to our nation.

In observance of Memorial Day, CNB is closed today. We will resume normal business hours tomorrow.

Financial literacy starts early.

Meet Mia, an 8-year-old 2nd grader and a brand new Commonwealth National Bank customer.

When asked what saving means to her, Mia shared a simple but powerful lesson:

“Save for the important stuff you really need, not everything you want.”

That message captures one of the most important foundations of financial literacy: learning the difference between needs and wants. When children begin learning that lesson early, they can start building habits that support long-term financial confidence, discipline, and decision-making.

At CNB, we believe banking is about more than accounts. It is about education, access, trust, and helping families take meaningful steps toward their financial goals.

During Financial Literacy Month, we are proud to highlight moments like this because they remind us why the work matters. Teaching children to save early can help prepare them for a stronger financial future.

To learn more about opening a savings account for your legacy, visit Commonwealth National Bank or speak with a CNB team member today.
CNB customers can also continue learning through Our Money Matters, powered by Enrich, a financial education resource designed to help individuals and families build knowledge at every stage.

For Financial Literacy Month, it helps to start with a simple question: What is a CD, and why would someone use one?

A Certificate of Deposit (CD) is a savings product with a fixed rate for a set term. That means you choose a time period, agree to leave the money in place for that term, and earn a fixed rate during that period. CDs can be useful for people who want a more structured and predictable way to save, especially for funds they do not need to access right away. Because the money is intended to stay in the account until maturity, early withdrawal may result in a penalty. Commonwealth National Bank offers CD terms ranging from 30 days to 60 months, along with Business CDs and Public Fund CDs for customers who need those options.

Financial literacy is not just about knowing definitions. It is about understanding how financial products work, when they may be useful, and how to choose what aligns with your goals.

That is part of why CNB is here for the community. Through Our Money Matters, powered by Enrich, we aim to make financial education more accessible and practical because we believe in making wealth common for all.

To learn more and get current CD rates, call (251) 476-5938 and ask which CD term may be right for you.

Financial literacy starts with everyday choices, and stronger spending habits can begin with one simple step. Through Commonwealth National Bank, you can access Enrich on our website at no cost and explore practical financial education that helps turn good intentions into better money habits. For this Financial Literacy Month post, we’re sharing Enrich-based guidance focused on smart spending.
The five tips are simple, but useful:
1. Make a list. Shopping with a plan can help reduce impulse purchases.2. Compare prices. Taking time to review options can help you find better value.3. Use a budget. A budget gives structure to your spending and helps you stay aware.4. Be intentional about how you pay. For some day-to-day purchases, cash can make spending easier to track.5. Notice emotional triggers. Your mood can influence spending decisions more than you think.
Smart spending is not just about cutting back. It is about being more aware, more prepared, and more intentional with your money.
Enroll in Enrich through Commonwealth National Bank to keep building financial knowledge that supports real-life decisions.

Long before women were commonly seen working in financial institutions, Mabel Z. Mollison helped redefine what was possible in banking.

From 1892 to 1908, Mollison worked as a cashier at Lincoln Savings Bank in Vicksburg, Mississippi. She is widely recognized as the first African American woman to serve in a bank teller role during a time when both women and African Americans faced significant barriers to entering the financial industry.

Her role was more than transactional. As a cashier, Mollison oversaw financial transactions and represented the bank to the community. In an era when opportunities in banking were extremely limited, her position reflected trust, leadership, and progress.

More than a century later, the impact of pioneers like Mabel Z. Mollison can still be seen.

At Commonwealth National Bank, all of the tellers at our branches are Black women—professionals who serve our community every day with expertise, care, and dedication. Their work continues the legacy of representation and opportunity in banking.

This Women’s History Month, we recognize Mabel Z. Mollison for helping open the door—and the many women who continue walking through it today.
