Insurance Terms You Should Know: Out-of-Pocket Maximum
This is one of the most important numbers on your plan -- it's the absolute most you'll pay in a year for covered healthcare services. Once you reach it, your plan picks up 100% of covered costs for the rest of the year.
Your deductible, copays, and coinsurance all count toward this number. Your monthly premium does not, and out-of-network care typically doesn't either.
Example: if your out-of-pocket max is $6,000 and you've already paid that much in covered costs this year, your plan covers the rest -- no more bills for covered services.
Understanding this number can make a big difference when you're comparing plans or budgeting for the year ahead. If you have questions about your own out-of-pocket max, feel free to reach out -- happy to walk through it with you.
