For 40+ years, the goal was simple: save more, spend less. Then you retire, and suddenly you're supposed to just... spend it?

I see this all the time. People who did everything right still feel guilty pulling money out of accounts they spent a lifetime building.

Part of my job is building a plan solid enough that you can actually enjoy the money without the guilt. If this sounds like something you might struggle with, send me a message and we can talk through it.

Financial fraud is becoming one of the fastest-growing threats to retirement savings — and the schemes are more convincing than ever.

Fake IRS agents, phony grandkid emergencies, romance scams, phishing calls about your Medicare or Social Security.

A few habits that help protect you:
— Never share personal info with someone who called you
— If something feels urgent, that's usually the tell — slow down
— Loop in a trusted person (advisor, family member) before any big money move

If something ever feels off, call me before you act.

Here's the estate planning step most families skip: actually telling your kids what the plan is. I've seen well-organized estates cause chaos because the family didn't know what to expect.

You don't have to share dollar amounts. But having a conversation about where things are and what you'd want? That's a gift to them. Want help thinking through how to have that conversation? Reach out.

Bonds don't make headlines, and after recent years, some investors are ready to write them off.

But in a retirement plan, bonds serve a purpose: stability and liquidity. When stocks decline, you don't want to be forced to sell them for income. Bonds are what you draw from while equities recover.

They're not there to generate outsized returns. They're there to keep the rest of your plan intact. Curious whether your mix reflects this? Happy to set up a time to talk.

The retirees I've watched navigate the ups and downs best all share one trait: they stay flexible with their spending.

When markets are strong, they might take the extra trip. When markets pull back, they scale back a little — maybe delay the new car by a year. That small willingness to adjust makes a huge difference in whether the money lasts.

A rigid withdrawal plan is fragile. A flexible one is durable. Curious what yours looks like? Send me a message.

Everyone thinks about the will. Fewer people think about the other documents that matter just as much:

— Power of attorney — who makes financial decisions if you can't
— Healthcare proxy/living will — who makes medical decisions, and what treatments you want

Without these in place, your family can end up in court making decisions you never had a say in. It's not a fun conversation, but it's a short one. This is part of what I walk through with every client. Message me if it's been a while.

There's a subtle but important distinction I walk through with every client: your risk tolerance (how much market volatility you can emotionally handle) versus your risk capacity (how much your plan can actually absorb without breaking).

A lot of folks have a high tolerance and think they can ride out anything. But if a rough market would force you to sell investments for income, your capacity for that risk is lower than you think.

Understanding both is how you build a portfolio that fits real life, not just a questionnaire. Want to know where you land? Send me a message.

If you're 70 or older and give to charity anyway, there's a strategy worth knowing about: the Qualified Charitable Distribution, or QCD.

It lets you send money straight from your IRA to a qualified charity — up to a set annual limit — and it can count toward your required withdrawal without adding to your taxable income. In plain terms: you help the cause you care about and you help your tax bill.

One of the most peaceful things you can build into a retirement plan is a "guaranteed income floor."

The idea: cover your essential monthly expenses — housing, food, utilities, insurance — with income you can count on regardless of the market. Then the rest of your money can be invested for growth without threatening your basic expenses..

Want to see what your floor looks like? Let's talk.

Inflation doesn't feel dramatic day to day, but over a 25- or 30-year retirement it adds up fast. What costs you $50 today could cost noticeably more deep into retirement. If your income is completely fixed, your buying power quietly shrinks every year.

Building in some growth to keep pace is a key part of any long-term plan. Want yours stress-tested against inflation?
