I have gotten weirdly into birding lately-maybe it is a thing that comes with being 42 and wanting to spend more time outside than on my phone.

Anyway, this Great Blue Heron was stalking us on our trip to Northern Minnesota.

I think technically it was stalking fish, but it felt like every time we turned around it was there, and it did not care about us AT ALL. It was so cool. It was one of those things we just don't see in our every day, and every time we saw it, it was like magic.

I hope you had your own magic this summer!

Squeaks is so happy we are back into a routine. This cat HATES change, and she gave me the belly of approval this morning, so I think she has forgiven our summer craziness and unpredictability.

I think of September as a kind of mini new year. It is a chance to reset, rethink priorities, and decide what I want the rest of the year to look like. Apparently it is big bird season here in Minnesota. In the last week on two separate walks I ran into turkeys and a blue heron.

It gives me the itch to go bird watching and see more big birds. Is that just a thing that happens to you in your 40's?!
