Money Safety Monday Spotlight: Elder Abuse Awareness Month
June is Elder Abuse Awareness month! While it’s true that Fraudsters target all age groups and demographics, they know that older Americans generally have the highest pool of assets (fully funded retirement accounts, home equity, savings accounts, etc.). Fraudsters are tricky and know how to push emotional buttons to get smart individuals to make scary mistakes.
What can you do?
-Slow down. Fraudsters are always in a rush, as this prevents people from thinking too much about the red flags.
-Talk to your family, friends, and those whom you trust. This includes your Bankers at Farmers Savings Bank! Often a second opinion is all that it takes to spot and stop a scam.
-Set up a Trusted Contact with us. A Trusted Contact is someone you know and trust to be contacted in the event your bank sees suspicious activity but cannot reach you. Your Trusted Contact does not have any control over your account, nor do they have any access to account information, such as account balance or transaction history. A Trusted Contact is another layer of protection against fraud.
