Milwaukee’s newly renovated Metcalfe Playfield is officially open! On October 1, Metcalfe Park residents joined neighborhood and city leaders to celebrate the transformation with remarks, a drum circle, and an opportunity to explore the updated space.
The project is the 15th playfield renovation completed as part of Milwaukee Recreation’s initiative to improve all 52 playfields across the city.
Beyond creating a welcoming space for the community, the renovation delivers important environmental benefits. More than 100 new trees and extensive green infrastructure have transformed an area once dominated by pavement and maintained grass into a greener space that supports wildlife, helps reduce urban heat, and minimizes flooding and combined sewer overflows.
With funding from MMSD’s Fresh Coast Green Communities Program, a network of integrated bioswales was installed to manage more than 240,000 gallons of stormwater, helping protect Milwaukee’s waterways while creating a healthier, more resilient neighborhood. Milwaukee Recreation
