A brand new $1.3 million playground specifically built for children of all abilities opened on Monday at Bay Beach Amusement Park in Green Bay, Wisconsin. The playground, named “Marilyn’s Oasis”, is located just west of the park's Zippin Pippin rollercoaster. City officials chose this location in the park because it’s near an underutilized parking lot and is a quieter area for people with sensory needs. There is no admission charge at Bay Beach Amusement Park and parking is free.
The playground has a poured-in-place “number one safety rated, fully accessible surface” and features specialized equipment that allows for safer fun, including: swings, serenity spot, musical components, steel slide, roller slide, 5-12 Playspace, playhouse with a tunnel, shaded play canopies, and a toddler area.
“Green Bay's first all-inclusive playground at Bay Beach will enable everyone in the family to have fun, be challenged, develop, grow, and engage together. Developing currently unused space at the park will create new opportunities throughout the year for visitors to socialize, rest, play, and make memories,” according to the city’s website.
Marilyn’s Oasis was made possible through the support of Green Bay Packaging’s George Kress Foundation, McDonald Companies, Wisconsin Public Service Foundation, the City of Green Bay, and Friends of Bay Beach Amusement Park fundraising group.
