Golfing With a Purpose: GT Reilly & Company team members Giuseppe “Joe” Femia, CPA, Vice President & Director, and Sean McNeil, CPA, MST, Accounting and Auditing Director, attended the annual Credit Unions of Rhode Island Charity Golf Tournament in Rehoboth, Massachusetts on July 20th. Pictured with the team are Chip Lattanzio and Brian MacDonald of the marketing firm Winbrook. In addition to a great day of golf, the tournament raised $50,000, helping fund a $100,000 donation presented to Special Olympics Rhode Island during the event in support of its 2025-2026 fundraising year.

The National Credit Union Administration (NCUA) finalized a package of deregulatory actions earlier this month that reshapes several aspects of federal credit union regulation. The initiative was launched in late 2025 to eliminate regulations considered outdated, duplicative, or unnecessary.
Significant changes that impact how credit unions operate and work with members include:

• A rule removing long-standing limits on third-party servicing of indirect vehicle loans.
• Simplified rules governing the purchase, sale and pledge of eligible obligations, while eliminating detailed collateral requirements for suretyship and guaranty agreements.
• Streamlining requirements for credit union service contracts, removing redundant share insurance disclosures and providing greater flexibility for notifying members of excess private insurance coverage terminations.

The NCUA is undergoing a change of chairman and board leadership with recent Senate approval of John Crews as chair. It is unclear at this time how the change in leadership will impact these recent deregulatory actions by the previous chair, Kyle Hauptman. ICYMI: The IRS released revised standard mileage rates, effective July 1, to reflect the rising cost of fuel. The new rates are: 76 cents per mile for business, up from 72.5 cents, and 23.5 cents per mile for medical and moving purposes, up from 20.5 cents per mile for each. The mileage rate that applies to the deduction for charitable contributions is fixed under Sec. 170(i) of the Internal Revenue Code at 14 cents per mile.
