It’s not easy working in this business!

I know a lot of financial professionals that would agree. It’s even tougher when you think there’s an easier way to garner business. I’m convinced there’s not!

I get inundated with adds that just seem and feel greedy! “Hey sign up with this service and get 6 $1M+ client meetings a week!”

Why would I want that? So that I can add more assets to mange and make more money? That’s what it feels like.

What my little world is missing is the financial professional that bolster their business with actual service.

I’m growing, but it’s at a speed that makes sense to my clients, not to my bottom line. What’s more, I actually serve my current clients and I don’t charge them more than I think they should be charged for my service.

Alright. I’m so fed up with all the negativity on permanent insurance. I know there are some out their that haven’t sold it well or have screwed up some illustrations, but we’re all going to die. Why pay for something you’ll never use? Term life rarely pays out to anyone.

I’m willing to bet that many in my industry have permanent life insurance on themselves and their family members. If we were all about the commission, we’d keep things cheap for ourselves.

Who wants to admit the bought some?

Managing wealth means managing expectations of clients.

I meet so many out there that like what they like and feel very strongly about it. Index funds vs. actively managed ones, term life vs. permanent insurance. They never take a step back and realize there isn’t any perfect solution.

Everything has trade offs, EVERYTHING! I’ve done plenty of study in this field and there’s not a damn thing that I can offer you that will take care of everything without you losing somewhere else. It’s just a matter of what you gain vs what you lose, but you won’t have everything you want.

I’ve been approached by folks that want to help me get meeting with high net worth clients. Here’s a shock to many, I’m not looking for high net worth clients!

Why?

Because everyone in my industry wants them and I’m not so sure that’s great. Instead I want clients with $50K to $200K in assets. No one talks to them and if they do, they’ll be charged fees to make up the difference. Here’s where I break away.

I charge flat fees for all my clients and I’ll say it out loud, I’m below 1% for all my clients. Why? Because it’s not my money, it’s there’s and while I may be working for them, I’m not here to get rich off of their hard work. Additionally, I can’t out do anything. In fact no one can make that claim.

Some people want to be told that, but anyone saying that to gain a client is being lied to. Lowering fees is all I can do to give my clients their own money which in turn keeps more invested.

I know buddies in this industry that will tell me I’m worth 1%. I know I am, but how do my clients choose me over anyone else.

Well now you know. You have a choice. Go with the larger firms and pay the higher fee. You’ll get the same service I’ll give you for lower costs.

Attended my nephew’s USAF basic military training graduation. I served for 22 years and it had been 29 years since I’ve been back to Lackland.

I’m so proud of him going this route he will do well in his career and I’m looking forward to hearing from him as he ages.

For me my visit to Lackland was a little emotional. I was 19 when I came here. My memories haven’t faded. To me Lackland is filled with men and women born in the mid to late 70s joining up and led and trained by Airmen that had served in Vietnam all the way to Desert Storm.

I’m excited to see these young Airmen start their adventure and a little part of me wishes I could start again.

But I’ve done my time and I’m really ok with that. I’m proud of our nations Airmen and I’m so happy to have another Airman in the family.

I sure hope everyone had a great time with friends and family yesterday! I love Thanksgiving Day! I love the food but mostly the time with my family. It’s just so awesome to have a full table with my children and their families too.

I meet a few Americans that one would call “Preppers”. They are an interesting lot.

It got me thinking though. They are preparing or are prepared for the unthinkable. They don’t think it will happen, they know it will happen. They dedicate their time and money to the art of prepping.

So what am I concerned about? My clients ability to absorb a loss or prepare for other issues. I don’t know if our government will fail in my time, but I do know that life is suffering and we all will at some point have to absorb a life changing event.

That’s why I’m there for my clients. So they aren’t alone to navigate difficult things or make difficult decisions.

What do you do with your dormant 401K or TSP?

You have a few choices but as with everything there are tradeoffs to each.

You can roll them over to an IRA and manage what assets you’ll be in. This can give you more investment options

You can move them into another 401K (unless you’re actually retiring). This keeps your money within the 401K space thus reducing your investment options but allows you to have a much larger principal when starting a new job. 401Ks have different rules and other options for one to engage with.

Finally I can manage either or. 401Ks already have fees but you get zero professional management. Some companies might offer advice but not many.

Professionally managed investment accounts aren’t just for the high net worth client. In fact I’d rather work with people just kicking off their accumulation or those right in the middle. Why? Because no one else wants to.

It seems as if everyone in my industry wants those millionaires to service and continue to grow their assets. So for me, there’s a whole bunch of Americans that no one talks to.

When you buy your life insurance from an online program you can miss a lot of things. Not to mention you have no individual support. That is to say that there will be no one that checks up with your situation on at least a yearly basis to help deal with life situations. Did you get a waiver of premium rider?
