Whether you’re warming up the car, running back inside because you forgot something, or thinking, “I’ll only be a minute…”—an unattended running vehicle can be an easy opportunity for theft.

And yes… even in your own driveway! 🚗💨

Before walking away:

🔑 Take your keys with you.
🚗 Turn the vehicle off.
🔒 Lock the doors.
📱 Don’t leave valuables in plain sight.
🏠 And don’t assume your driveway automatically means your vehicle is safe.

September is home to some truly remarkable moments in history. From breakthroughs in medicine to the furthest reaches of space, these are the kinds of milestones that remind us of what becomes possible when human ingenuity, courage, and determination come together.

Here are three we are celebrating this month:

🫀 September 2, 1952 - At the University of Minnesota, the University of Minnesota surgical team (Drs. F. John Lewis, C. Walton Lillehei, Mansur Taufic, and Richard Varco) performed the first successful open-heart surgery using a technique called hypothermia, often called “code chill” or “code cool,” to temporarily stop the heart's blood flow.

🚀 September 5, 1977 - NASA launched the Voyager 1 spacecraft, which has since become the most distant human-made object ever to travel through space. Onboard is the Golden Record, a carefully assembled message from Earth intended for any extraterrestrial life that may find it.

🏗️ September 30, 1935 - In the middle of the Great Depression, construction on the Hoover Dam commenced, a monumental feat of engineering that was finished two years ahead of schedule.
These moments continue to inspire us to think bigger, reach further, and never underestimate what is possible.

🪿😳 Risky Rita’s Oops Moment!

Well, friends… Rita did it again. 🤦‍♀️

I was just running in for a quick errand, so I left the windows down in the car. What could possibly happen in a few minutes?!

🌧️ Apparently… A LOT.

One surprise rain shower later, I came back to a slightly soggy driver's seat and one very embarrassed goose. 🪿😂

Thankfully, this “oops” only resulted in a wet seat and a lesson learned—but it’s a good reminder that those little things we forget can sometimes turn into much bigger problems.

🪿 Rita’s Reminder: Before you walk away from your vehicle, give it one quick check: windows up, doors locked, valuables out of sight, and keys in hand! 🔑

Now I KNOW I’m not the only one who’s had a car-related “oops!” 😂

What an exciting day for Millen & Jenkins County! 🤍🏗️ It was truly an honor to be invited to attend the groundbreaking ceremony for Ametri’s new facility right here in Jenkins County. There’s something special about being able to witness the beginning of a project that represents so much opportunity for the future of our community.

Ametri’s new facility will begin as a distribution warehouse for terrazzo flooring products, with plans to expand into manufacturing right here in Jenkins County. This investment means more than just a new building—it represents new jobs, economic growth, opportunity, and confidence in the community we are so proud to call home. ❤️ Thank you to everyone who has worked behind the scenes to help make opportunities like this possible for Millen and Jenkins County. Days like today are a wonderful reminder that when people believe in our community and work together toward its future, great things can happen.
