“YELLOWSTONE NATIONAL PARK Visitors in the northern part of Yellowstone National Park are being evacuated and all entrances into the park are closed due to substantial flooding, rockslides and extremely hazardous conditions.

The power is out throughout the park following "unprecedented" amounts of rainfall and flooding, according to a news release.

Effective immediately, no inbound visitor traffic will be allowed into the park until conditions stabilize and the park can assess damage to roads and bridges and other facilities. This includes visitors with lodging and camping reservations," the release says.” See the full article at https://www.ksl.com/article/50422271/all-yellowstone-national-park-entrances-closed-following-unprecedented-rainfall (or click the link in the story)

When you talk to your insureds about their homeowner's policy, do you mention that natural catastrophes claims for damages caused by Flood, Earthquakes, or Landslides to their home aren't covered?

If your insureds are located in Washington, you'll want to pay special attention to the Nooksack River. Storms in November 2021 caused two rounds of flooding on the river, which displaced 500+ Whatcom County residents and 14,000 people in Canada. Damage in Whatcom County has topped $150 million and totaled billions across British Columbia. According to the IIABW, U.S. and Canadian government leaders have agreed to work together to address flooding near the NW Washington state border with Canada on the Nooksack River.

As Hurricane Ida came rolling in, everyone stopped to watch. High winds and flooding created massive issues for locals and those visiting. Some were lucky enough to be able to evacuate but that’s not the case for everyone. The destruction that has occurred is devastating. Today I was reading through article on ida touches on some important factors people should keep in mind before traveling back to their homes.

1. Don't go home until it's truly safe!
Just because the hurricane is over doesn't mean it's safe to drive. Residents should "return home only when local officials say it is safe to do so," the Federal Emergency Management Agency says.
2. Use extreme caution when you get home.
3. Minimize the risk of electrocution.
4. Photograph the damage and seek help if needed.
5. Clean safely and beware of mold.
