🚌 A few important reminders during National School Bus Safety Week to help keep kids safe!

- 🛑 Red lights flashing? Stop! In all 50 states, you must stop when a school bus has flashing red lights and an extended stop arm.
- 🟡 Flashing yellow lights? Slow down and prepare to stop.
- 🚸 Give kids space. Watch carefully for children getting on or off the bus and near bus stops.
- 👣 Stay back from the curb. Kids should wait at least 10 feet from the road and never run or play near the bus.
- 👀 Watch for the unexpected. Never pass a stopped school bus with its red lights flashing, and remind kids to tell the driver if they drop something near the bus.

A little extra caution goes a long way in keeping our kids safe! ❤️

🥶 Maine winters can be tough on the wallet, especially with the cost of heating fuel!

If you’re using alternative heat sources like wood stoves or space heaters, make sure they’re used safely, keep anything flammable well away, and never use outdoor heaters or generators indoors. To save on traditional heating costs, seal drafts around windows and doors, lower your thermostat a few degrees, and keep up with regular furnace maintenance. A few small changes can help keep your home comfortable without turning up the heat on your heating bill! 💵

Getting into your favorite fall scents yet? 🍎🍮🎃 While you’re lighting those cozy candles, remember that October is National Fire Prevention Month! Here are a few simple candle safety tips from our friends at The Hanover Insurance Group to help keep your home safe this fall!

🕯️ Never leave a burning candle unattended. Blow it out when you leave the room or go to bed.
🐾 Keep candles out of reach of kids and pets.
🏡 Keep candles away from curtains, decorations, and anything else that could catch fire.
🔥 Use sturdy candle holders on a heat-resistant, level surface.
✂️ Keep wicks trimmed to ¼ inch or less.

That chill in the air this morning was a pretty good reminder that winter is on its way! ❄️ Before long, Maine’s snowy trails will be calling, and we’ll be out enjoying one of the best ways to experience winter in our state.
