IMPORTANT INFORMATION ON PRESCRIPTION PLANS...
Several major Medicare Part D carriers have announced that they will not pay commissions to agents for Part D prescription drug plans (PDP) in 2025.
Centene will stop paying commissions for new and renewal PDP enrollments starting January 1, 2025. Centene said the decision was made due to changes in the Inflation Reduction Act and final rate notice provisions.
Other major Medicare Part D carriers have also announced that they will not pay commissions for 2025.
This decision could negatively impact Medicare consumers and health insurance agents. Medicare Part D plans are complex, and agents are an important resource for consumers looking for coverage. Without commissions, agents may have limited ability to revisit plan fit or check in with beneficiaries.
In response, agents may offer A-B options to clients. Option A is the plan that's best based on cost, but the agent can't facilitate enrollment or provide ongoing service. Option B is a plan where the agent gets paid and can provide a high level of service, but would cost the client more for their plan. Neither a good option.
