Will Nordt - Virginia Asset Management Financial Planner
Private Wealth Management & Corporate Advisory My clients view me as their family’s Chief Financial Officer.

I started my advisory practice to help businesses and families make more purposeful financial decisions. My clients are smart, successful (or on the path to success), values-driven individuals and business owners who understand the value of delegation and specialization. The businesses I work with are often focused on issues surrounding employee retention, making their business marketable for a pl

anned exit, business succession, and estate planning strategies to facilitate a smooth and tax-efficient transfer. The individuals and families I work with are typically navigating life changes – marriage, starting a family, retirement, job changes, or an increase in financial complexity of their estate. As a Financial Planner, it is my job to help my clients assign purpose to their dollars, then help them implement a personalized strategy. I joined Virginia Asset Management in 2021 after graduating from the University of Virginia with majors in Applied Statistics with a concentration in Actuarial Finance, and Economics. During my time at UVA, I served as a Young Life leader at Journey Middle School in Albemarle County. My wife, Grace, and I live in Richmond with our miniature Australian Shepherd, Birdie. We are members of City Church of Richmond and spend much of our time outside of work enjoying time with our friends and small group. I enjoy playing golf, tasting good bourbon, and rooting for my favorite sports teams, UVA Men’s Basketball and Manchester United. Securities offered through Cetera Wealth Services, LLC, member FINRA/SIPC. Advisory services offered through Cetera Investment Advisers LLC, a registered investment adviser. Some potential changes and enhancements to retirement plans being discussed in Congress! The most interesting to me being matching contributions for student loan payments. Check it out.

New retirement rules could make it easier for Americans to accumulate retirement savings — and less costly to withdraw them, if lawmakers pass a retirement reform package before the end of the month.

Tax-loss harvesting can be a nice silver-lining in a market down year like 2022, especially if you've sold a low-basis business or stock this year. Make sure you talk to your CPA or financial advisor to ensure IRS rules are followed when executing a strategy like this.

2022 has been a bad year for most markets, but that could create opportunities for tax-loss harvesting.

Know the differences and how to utilize them to give yourself an advantage!

If maxing out your 401k will be a New Year's resolution for you, know that you'll be able to put more in than ever before! Plan your deferrals accordingly, and remember that your employer match doesn't count toward your contribution limit.

Young workers will be allowed to contribute up to $22,500 pretax to a 401(k), a $2,000 jump from the current $20,500, while those 50 or older will be permitted to sock away up to $30,000, a $3,000 boost.

My college education was largely funded by my great-grandmother even before I could talk. As a former educator, she had a passion for education, and of course, a love for her great-grandchildren.

Grandparents and other relatives love those little ones, and are always excited to give them gifts during the holidays. Asking for contributions toward their college and education fund can be uncomfortable, but this article gives some great tips on how to have that conversation and give your loved ones an opportunity to gift in a way they didn't know they could.

Trying to figure out a nice way to ask relatives to give your kids something more meaningful than Legos and Pokémon cards? Consider these tips, tricks, and sample language to ask relatives to give directly into a 529 college savings account, instead.

Last week, I had the opportunity to visit Securian Financial in Minnesota (yes, it was very cold) to attend their Foundation School. It's so great to network with colleagues in-person and hear about the important work they've helped their clients with.

I learned a year's worth of information in three days and have taken home with me timely and educational insights that will help me provide even greater value to my clients. One thing I did not learn, however, is how to keep my eyes open and smile during a group photo! I'll do better next time!😂
