The holiday was first celebrated nationally in 1792, marking the 300th anniversary of his voyage, and became a federal holiday in 1937. For many Italian Americans, it also serves as a celebration of Italian heritage and contributions to our country.

Today, Columbus Day is also an opportunity to reflect on the complex history of European exploration, including its profound and often devastating impact on Indigenous peoples who had lived in the Americas for thousands of years.

History reminds us how important it is to learn from the past, recognize different perspectives, and appreciate the many cultures and traditions that shape our nation today.

💗 October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month 💗

This month is about so much more than wearing pink. It’s about hope, awareness, early detection, support, and remembering the women and men whose lives have been touched by breast cancer.

To every survivor, every person currently fighting, every caregiver, and every family member who has walked this journey with someone they love—you are seen, you are supported, and you are not alone. 💗

And to everyone reading this: please take a moment to take care of YOU. Talk with your healthcare provider about your personal risk and when you should be screened. Mammograms can help find breast cancer early, when it may be easier to treat. Also, know how your breasts normally look and feel, and talk with your doctor about any changes that concern you. (CDC)
