If you're on Medicare, there are two dates to put on the calendar this fall, which are October 15 and December 7, 2026. That's the annual Open Enrollment window, and it's the yearly chance to review your Medicare health and prescription drug coverage and make certain changes.

Anything you change during that window generally starts January 1, 2027, as long as your plan receives the request by December 7.

You don't need a reason to review your coverage, though a few things usually make it a good idea, including a notice from your plan about next year, a new prescription, or a change in the doctors you see.

Medicare appointments go a lot smoother when you walk in prepared, and it doesn't take much. Here's what we would suggest bringing:
▪️ Your current plan card, or the paperwork your plan mailed you
▪️ A list of your medications and the doses
▪️ The names of the doctors and pharmacies you'd like to keep
▪️ Any questions you've been meaning to ask

That last one matters more than people expect. Comparing options usually depends on your prescriptions, your providers, what things cost, and what matters most to you, so someone taking several medications will often have different questions than someone whose main concern is staying with a certain doctor.
