By 2030, it is projected that the number of individuals age 65 and older will be more than 73 million, almost one and one-half times the number today. Second, according to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, about 70 percent of individuals over age 65 will require at least some type of long-term care services during their lifetimes. Over 40 percent will need care in a nursing home for some period.

The House of Representatives voted yesterday with a resoundingly bipartisan margin of 419 - 6 to pass H.R.748, the Middle Class Health Benefits Tax Repeal Act of 2019. This bill, sponsored by Rep. Joe Courtney (D-CT) and Rep. Mike Kelly (R-PA) fully repeals the 40 percent “Cadillac Tax” on employer-provided health plans.
While this tax was intended to only hit Americans with “gold-plated” plans, the reality is that very modest plans covering low- and moderate-income working families are projected to trigger the tax. The tax will disproportionately tax the health plans of women, seniors, working middle class families, the sick, and the disabled. Small businesses that already struggle to offer health care coverage will also be heavily penalized.
Next Steps: The Senate must now vote on their companion bill, S.684

Long-Term Care Costs Could Wipe Out Your Savings
Even if your nest egg is large enough that you won’t outlive your savings, you still could run out of money if you don’t have a plan to cover long-term care costs, Geary said. If you reach age 65, there’s about a 50-50 chance you will need some sort of long-term care. This sort of care isn’t cheap.

The median annual cost of an assisted living facility is $45,000, and the median cost of a private nursing home room is $97,452, according to the Genworth 2017 Cost of Care Survey. “You could easily burn through $1 million taking care of one person.

Most workplace life insurance policies have limits in the $20,000 to $100,000 range - and it’s leaving a lot of Americans underinsured. Experts recommend having a policy amount that covers 10 to 12 times your income.
If you have kids or a mortgage, employer life insurance probably isn’t enough coverage. Your insurance is tied to your job.
The average employee stays in their job for 4.5 years, so you could end up looking for coverage when you’re older, and it costs a lot more.

According to the Alzheimer’s Association, by 2025 the number of people age 65 and older with the disease in the U.S. is estimated to reach 7.1 million — nearly a 35 percent increase from the 5.3 million age 65 and older affected in 2017.
This disease has had a personal affect on my family and is in "epidemic" increase as mentioned in the above paragraph from the Alzheimer's Association.
Some of us are in the "Sandwich generation" and caring for our loved ones with this disease is extremely hard. Thank God for Long Term Care insurance. With LTC insurance we can provide help that alleviates the stress that not only helps the person with the disease but helps keep the caregiver sane also. In many cases the caregiver, without help, passes before the affected does.
We want to help by providing options for Long Term Care. Please call us at 432-570-5410 or email me at [email protected] for more information.
If you know of anyone that could benefit from LTC insurance please pass on my information.
