Drivers in Louisville should expect traffic impacts starting Sunday night as crews prepare for a temporary closure of a five-mile stretch of I-65 as part of the I-65 Central Corridor project.
Work is scheduled to begin around 7 p.m. Sunday, May 31, with crews completing final striping and staging. A rolling road closure is expected to start around 12:01 a.m. Monday, June 1, shifting traffic onto a signed detour. Northbound and southbound I-65 will be closed between the I-65/I-264 (Watterson Expressway) interchange and downtown Louisville (Jefferson Street). Officials say airport access will remain open during the closure process and throughout the interstate shutdown.
The full five-mile closure is expected to last about two months, with I-65 reopening to two lanes by Saturday, Aug. 1. A separate two-mile section of southbound I-65 between University Boulevard and I-264 is expected to reopen to two lanes by Wednesday, July 1.
