Middleton Police Chief

The Town of Middleton, New Hampshire (population approx. 1800) is seeking qualified candidates for the position of police chief. Located along the ME- NH border, this rural community is just minutes from the lake’s region and 40 minutes from the seacoast.

The Police Department has an authorized strength of 3 full-time officers including the chief, several part-time officers, and a part-time administrative assistant. The operating budget is approximately $305,000. The Chief is expected to perform all the usual management and administrative duties of the position but given the size of the department is expected to assume the responsibilities as a first responder.

The ideal candidate will have an associate degree or higher in a related field, eight years of progressively responsible management and police experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience to demonstrate success in the position. Salary range is up to $85,000; starting salary commensurate with qualifications.

Deputy Town Clerk/Tax Collector

The Middleton Town Clerk/Tax Collector’s office is accepting Resumes for the position of Deputy Town Clerk/ Tax Collector. The responsibilities include: providing citizens with accurate and vital information, as well as an accurate accounting of revenues collected. The position requires an understanding of applicable state laws, rules, and regulations pertaining to a town clerk/tax collector. Specific duties required in assisting the Town Clerk/Tax Collector:

Registration and titling of motor vehicles, boats and off road vehicles.
Accepting and applying payments for property taxes. Leining, deeding and property title searches.
Vital Records administration including processing marriage licenses, birth and death certificates.
Maintaining town records and other documents in need of safekeeping or of historical value.
Assisting with voter registration and other election related business such as processing of absentee ballots.
Acts as a key front end resource to residents and businesses in resolving questions and direction to other town departments.
Preparing daily financial reports and deposits
Performs other duties as assigned.
Excellent organizational skills and detail oriented a must
Ability to work confidently and independently
A High School Diploma or equivalent is the minimum qualification, however, an ideal candidate would have a familiarity with MAAP, NHVRIN, ElectioNet, NH Fish & Game, Avitar Clerk, and Tax Collect. This is a part-time position. The position works 8-16 hours per week. Hourly wage is dependent on experience and qualifications.

57 registered voters turned out yesterday for Middleton’s annual town meeting. 57 people decided the acceptance, modification or disapproval of the warrant articles presented. Guessing there shouldn’t be anyone displeased with their tax bills come July and December.

Reminder that Town Meeting is tomorrow morning (3/18/23) at 9:00am. The meeting will be held at the school. This meeting is to discuss, approve, amend or disapprove all municipal budgets as well as special warrant articles.
