Rain, rain. . .

Those south of us in the middle of the state have seen way too much the last few days.

THU AM UPDATE: Really not the best news for parts of our area dealing with flooding, and especially Eastern Indiana dealing with generational flash flooding. More rain on the way later today/this evening (mainly at & after dinner). Another 1-2" possible, especially in Indiana.

This "ring of fire" pattern continues through the weekend before FINALLY breaking apart by Sunday/next week. I will do a "weather geek" post on what this pattern is, how it develops etc... but wanted to keep focusing on impacts first.

Between the absolutely insane storm damage & power outages in Lake, Porter, LaPorte counties (parts of NW Indiana are still 75%+ no power!!), the flooding in Pulaski, Starke, Fulton and the generational flash flooding in Eastern Indiana, if you're not being overly impacted by this pattern, count your blessings. Your neighbors are struggling.

This week marks 250 years since the United States was born.

The folks who raised their right hand back then often weren’t polished.

They were farmers, tradesmen—teenagers with more heart than they had training. But they stood up anyway saying, “I’ll hold the line,” and they meant it.

The flag they fought under? That wasn’t just fabric. It was a promise.

Not a perfect one—but a real one.

It stood for what they were willing to give—and who they were willing to become to help build something they knew they might never see.

So what do we do with that now, two and a half centuries later?

We honor it.

Not just with parades and posts but with presence and courage.

We stop what we’re doing for a minute and let the noise drop out and we ask ourselves: “Am I living in a way that’s worthy of that kind of sacrifice?”

Because that flag still flies over people trying to do the right thing.

Trying to raise good kids. Folks trying to keep their word.

All of that still matters, no matter how hard the world pushes back on it at times.

So maybe this evening, just sit with that.

Stand outside. Look up at the sky as the sun sets in the west and think about the folks who came before—who carried weight so we could walk lighter.

And maybe carry something on their behalf tomorrow. Something honest and worth handing down.

That’s how we mark this day.

Quietly. Clearly.

Like men and women who still know what that flag means when it’s flying tall in the wind.

Good morning, happy Wednesday... happy happy July 1st! This will likely be the hottest day of the stretch of heat... or close to it. Highs in the middle/upper 90s likely, with heat index values near 110°. This is pretty brutal for our area, so take it slow if outdoors and stay hydrated!

Some relief on the way by the holiday weekend, but it will likely include some t'storm chances as well. Updates on that as we get closer.
