Since we are in the midst of hurricane season, our team wanted to share a timely reminder about one important step of the preparation process: reviewing your personal insurance coverages before a storm even hits.

Here are a few key areas we suggest reviewing this hurricane season:

đŸ”” Hurricane Deductibles - Some homeowners policies in some states may include a hurricane deductible, which is often a percentage of your home’s insured value. This deductible is separate from your standard homeowners deductible and is the amount of money you must pay toward hurricane-related damage before your insurance company starts paying. Know what triggers it and how much you’d owe.

đŸ”” Flood and Windstorm Coverage - Flood damage typically requires separate flood insurance, and damage from unnamed windstorms may also be excluded from some policies. Reviewing your coverage and filling any gaps before a storm hits can make a significant difference.

đŸ”” Filing Claims - Ahead of a hurricane, document the state of your home. Then, after the storm, document damage with photos and videos before you begin cleaning up or repairs. This can help fully showcase any potential damage done by a storm. Additionally, as you make repairs, keep receipts for what you spend.

As always, know that we are here to help if you have any questions about your coverage or if you would like to talk through layering on more coverage. Reach out today, and we can get started.

The return to school brings one of the most significant changes in daily traffic patterns of the entire year. A few moments of extra caution can make an enormous difference. Swipe for a few traffic safety considerations for both motorists and parents of young children to keep in mind as back-to-school season approaches.

By staying alert, following the rules, and looking out for the most vulnerable people on our roads, we can all play a role in keeping the roads safe this school year.

Have you heard of Employment Practices Liability Insurance (EPLI)? This key coverage can be crucial in workplace-related claims tied to how you hire, manage, and support employees.

EPLI is designed to help protect your business against certain workplace-related claims, including wrongful termination, discrimination, harassment, retaliation, and decisions regarding hiring and promotions. These claims can be time-consuming, costly, and disruptive, regardless of a company’s size. Additionally:

✅ A single claim can lead to significant legal expenses, even if no wrongdoing is found.
✅ Leadership time and attention may be pulled away from running the business to handle a legal proceeding.
✅ Claims can involve not only employees, but also customers, vendors, or other third parties, depending on the situation.
✅ Situations can escalate quickly, especially when there are differing perspectives or limited documentation.

EPLI can help provide a financial backstop so one issue doesn’t disrupt your day-to-day operations or long-term plans.

If you would like to talk through adding EPLI coverage to your current portfolio or simply review your existing coverage, our team would be happy to connect and answer any questions you may have. Give us a call today, and we can get started.

If you’ve ever loaned your car to a friend or borrowed someone else’s vehicle, you may have wondered what happens if an accident occurs. Would the vehicle owner’s insurance apply — or would the driver’s policy take over?

In most situations, auto insurance follows the vehicle first, not the driver. That means the car's policy is usually the primary source of coverage in the event of an accident. However, that’s not always the case. Swipe for some key details about when the vehicle owner’s policy kicks in and when the driver’s policy is used.

If you’re ever unsure how your coverage applies, want to double-check your policy, or layer on additional auto coverages, we’re always happy to take a look with you. Feel free to give our team a call. We are here to be a resource for you.
