Confidence, savings and tax questions all point to the same conclusion: a plan built for one country doesn't automatically work for a life lived across several. So what does?

Our Retirement Reality Check set out five traits worth checking your own plan against:

1. Tax-aware, built around your residence, income source and the double tax treaties that actually apply to you.

2. Currency-resilient, deliberate about what you earn, hold and will eventually spend, not just what the number reads today.

3. Defined by a number, anchored to the income you'll actually need, so every decision has something to measure against.

4. Sensibly consolidated, portable if you move again, brought together only where the tax, guarantees or charges make it worth doing.

5. Reviewed on purpose, revisited at least once a year, and again whenever your circumstances or the rules change.

Most people are missing at least one of these without realising it.

There's a six-month window before you relocate, and most people don't realise it's open.

Every financial decision you make in that time, or don't make, locks in consequences for years.

In her latest masterclass, Joselyn Pfeil, Private Wealth Adviser at Skybound Wealth, sets out the six structural moves that need to happen before your residency changes:

• Tax residency assessment
• Exit tax implications
• Investment restructuring
• Pension transfers
• Bank infrastructure
• Insurance portability

Miss the window, and corrections become expensive, or in some cases impossible.

The full session also covers the FEIE vs foreign tax credit decision, and the reporting obligations most people only discover after buying property abroad.

The window opens when you decide to move. It closes when you arrive.

Why join Skybound Wealth Management instead of one of the big four?

It's a question Peter Gollogly gets asked a lot.

For him, it came down to the chance to travel early in his career, and the room to grow and progress through the ranks.

He's done both.

Peter joined Skybound in 2012 and was named top new consultant in his first year. He spent four years advising expats and international investors in the Middle East, then moved to Central Europe in 2017 as Regional Manager to help build the business there. He joined the Board in 2021 and became Regional Director in 2022, qualifying as a Chartered Wealth Manager along the way.

Every step of that was earned. What Skybound gave him was the opportunity to keep proving himself, with more responsibility each time he did.

If you're weighing up your next career move, it's worth asking any firm the same questions Peter did. Where could this take me? And how far could I go?

Client service gets tested when something changes.

A move to a new country. A mortgage decision that affects your retirement plans. A request that needs an answer this week, not next month.

For the third consecutive year, Skybound Wealth Management has been named global winner of Excellence in Client Service (Advisers) at the Investment International Awards. In 2026, we also won the Middle East award.

Behind that recognition are the advisers, servicing teams and specialists who keep client relationships moving when circumstances change. Here's how that works in practice:

• Client requests are logged in Hub with a named owner, a status and a next action
• Global Partners coordinates support when clients move country
• Specialists in tax, property and mortgages work alongside advisers on bigger decisions

Our CEO, Mike Coady, explains what sits behind the award, and who deserves the credit.

Getting a mortgage approved is one question. Whether the purchase works for the rest of your life is another.

The lender looks at what you can borrow. It doesn't look at what the monthly payments mean for your savings, your retirement plans or the school fees due in three years' time.

That's where MoneyMap comes in. Before you commit, you can see how a deposit and ongoing housing costs could change your cash flow and future savings, year by year. Test different prices, deposit sizes and timings, then speak to the Skybound Property & Finance team about the financing that fits.

Whether you're buying where you live now, back home or somewhere you plan to move later, you'll go in knowing what the purchase means for the bigger picture.

Projections depend on the assumptions behind them, and we'll talk you through each one.

Returning to the UK from the GCC? The financial decisions you make before leaving could save you money and prevent costly mistakes.

Tax residency, pensions, investments and property planning all need careful consideration before you make the move. Get the timing wrong, and some opportunities may no longer be available once you're back.

Your UK tax residence is determined by the Statutory Residence Test, not simply the date you arrive or what you intend to do. Depending on your circumstances, decisions made before or after becoming UK tax resident could produce very different financial outcomes.

Missed our Returning to the UK from the GCC webinar? You can now watch it on demand.

Three specialists from Skybound Wealth Management discuss what British expats should consider before making the move:

• Mike Coady, CEO – Drawing on over 20 years of experience advising internationally mobile families.

• Kieron Franklin, Group Head of Skybound Property & Finance – Sharing his professional expertise alongside his personal experience of returning to the UK.

• Shil Shah, Group Head of Tax Planning – Explaining the tax considerations, potential pitfalls and planning opportunities associated with returning home.

From tax residency and pensions to property and investment planning, the session covers the decisions worth addressing while you still have time to act.

Planning to return to the UK in the next 6–18 months?

Myth: the biggest tax risk in Spain is the rate.

Reality: most expat tax problems come from timing, classification and reporting.

Take Modelo 720. It isn't a tax. It's a return declaring foreign assets above certain thresholds. Spain relies on self-assessment, so nobody writes to remind you, and silence from the tax office isn't approval.

Taylor Condon, Country Manager – Spain & Private Wealth Partner, explains what really drives a Spanish tax bill.

For the detail, the full guide covers when Spanish tax exposure starts (often earlier than people think), why the way your income is classified matters more than how much you earn, and why problems tend to surface at retirement or exit.

Is your financial advice independent or restricted?

One can consider the whole relevant market. The other works from a limited range. SOAR Issue 8's How Advice Works section explains the difference and what it means for the advice you're given.

It also opens the inbox on three questions submitted through the Skybound app and answered by the advisers who field them: residency day-counts, pension consolidation and transatlantic pension transfers. And a Short List runs through seven money mistakes that quietly catch expats in Saudi Arabia, built for the time it takes to board a flight.
