A question we hear often: what happens if you pass away without a will in Louisiana?
The state decides for you. Louisiana's succession laws (Louisiana's word for probate) determine who inherits, and the outcome can look very different from what you'd have chosen yourself. Louisiana also has its own rules around community property and forced heirship that most other states don't, so a will written or copied from somewhere else may not hold up here.
We aren't attorneys and don't draft estate documents. We do work alongside our clients' attorneys every day to make sure the financial side of the plan lines up with what's on paper. If you don't have a Louisiana estate attorney yet, or it's been a while since you looked at your documents, we're happy to talk through where to start.
