I just earned my CEPA, the Certified Exit Planning Advisor designation.
Here’s why it matters to the owners I work with, and why exit planning has almost nothing to do with leaving.
Exit planning means being exit-ready at all times. That is just another way of saying your business runs at its best value, every day you own it.
A business that is sale-ready performs at its peak while you run it. It pays you well enough to diversify your wealth beyond the company. And it carries a higher chance of selling, at a higher price, on the day you choose to step away.
The stakes are real. Most owners spend 20 to 30 years building something valuable and almost no time making it transferable, so 80 to 90 percent of their wealth stays locked inside one company. One that, statistically, may never sell on their terms. Or at all.
Build to be ready, and readiness pays you now and protects you later.

Freedom isn’t selling. It’s having the choice.
