Texas Homeowners Insurance Premiums Are Rising
As someone who’s dedicated the better part of my career to helping Texas families protect what matters, I’ve seen firsthand how homeowners insurance premiums have shifted over the years. A recent study highlights just how sharp this rise has been—costs have climbed up to 74% since 2009, which means insurance is now taking a bigger bite out of family budgets than ever before. What’s striking is that these increases are outpacing both incomes and home prices, so the challenge of owning a home in Texas is about much more than the purchase price alone. For context, the median home price in Houston recently hit $345K, while yearly homeowners premiums are now hovering around $3,000, and that’s without flood coverage. Much of this pressure comes from catastrophic weather events and the rising cost of repairs—a reality I regularly discuss with my clients here in Mesquite. It’s also worth noting that many rural counties are feeling the squeeze even more, with insurance costs making up a bigger share of home value. As researchers start looking into how families are adjusting their budgets to keep up, this is a conversation I’m committed to having with every client. My goal, as always, is to help you make informed choices so your home—and your financial peace of mind—are protected for the long haul.
