Richard Bach is one of my favorite authors, and this line from "Illusions" has always stuck with me: "The bond that links your true family is not one of blood, but of respect and joy in each other's life." If you haven't read "Jonathan Livingston Seagull," his other one, you might want to. Great book. But this quote is just true. Family isn't about blood. Family is about respect.

Here's one I'll respectfully push back on. Ken Blanchard said, "None of us is as smart as all of us." I hear the spirit of it, but the research doesn't fully support it. Groupthink can actually make a room dumber than any one person in it. What works is cooperative intelligent thinking: people who bring their own sharp perspectives and build on each other's, rather than just agreeing to agree. Get that combination right, and a group really can do things no individual could do alone.
