Good morning everyone,

September is Life Insurance Awareness Month, so this week I wanted to share a few things that often get overlooked.

Life insurance isn't really about you. It's about making sure the people who count on you could keep their home, keep the kids in their schools, and stay on track if something unexpected happened.

Here are three quick things worth knowing:

It's often more affordable than people think. Many people overestimate what a term policy costs, and they put it off because of that.
Coverage through work may not be enough. Group policies are typically one to two times your salary, and they usually don't follow you if you change jobs.
A common starting point is 10 to 12 times your income. The right number depends on your mortgage, debts, your kids' ages and college plans (every family is different).

For example, a young family with a mortgage and two kids may need far more than the policy offered at work... and that gap usually isn't obvious until it matters most.

With fall settling in, here are a few quick things worth checking before the first real cold snap:

Service your furnace or boiler. A heating failure can lead to frozen pipes, and water damage is one of the most common home claims we see in New England.
Clean your gutters. Clogged gutters often cause ice dams, which may push water under your roof and into your ceilings.
Know where your main water shut-off is. If a pipe bursts, shutting the water off in the first few minutes could save thousands in damage.
Take photos of your home and belongings. A quick video walk-through on your phone typically makes any future claim much easier.

One more thing to consider... many homeowners find out after a loss that their policy doesn't cover what they assumed it did (water backup and ice damage are common gaps). If you'd like a second set of eyes on your coverage, I'm happy to take a look. No pressure, just an honest review.

Our next-door neighbors at New England Mobile Fit Clinic are hosting a Car Show Fundraiser for Breast Cancer Survivors, and we're proud to be part of it.

Plan on classic and custom cars, great music, food trucks, local crafters, and a "Decorate a Flamingo" activity celebrating strength and survivorship. Every car, every smile, and every flamingo helps support breast cancer survivors through the comfort care services the clinic provides right here in our community.

This weekend, from 8 pm to midnight, two beams of light will rise into the sky from the 6,288 ft. summit of Mt. Washington in NH.
