According to a survey by New American Funding, most homeowners, 85%, wish they knew more about the home buying process before their purchase. Among those, 13% did not know they didn’t have to put 20% down, and 20% wished they knew about down payment assistance programs.

Down payments can feel like a prohibitive cost for many borrowers, and it’s important to know all of your options before taking the leap. Q: Is 2026 better for buyers or sellers?

A: Trick question - the answer is both. While previous years have favored sellers, we’re entering into a more balanced market that has benefits for both sides of the transaction. According to Redfin, in 2025 almost half of sellers were offering concessions to buyers, and buyers are reentering the market as home prices are becoming more stable.
