The Mississippi Department of Insurance has issued Bulletin 2025-5 regarding House Bill 1611, which introduces a new 45-day notice requirement for property & casualty, automobile, and workers' compensation insurance policies.

āœ… Effective for policies issued or renewed on or after July 1, 2026
āœ… Insurers must provide at least 45 days' notice before a renewal, cancellation, nonrenewal, or reduction in coverage takes effect
āœ… An increase in a deductible is considered a reduction in coverage
āœ… Companies should have systems ready to issue these notices by May 15, 2026

This change is designed to give policyholders more time to review coverage changes and make informed decisions about their insurance needs.

City of Meridian, Mississippi officials urge residents to stay off roads amid widespread flooding tonight. We are actively responding to significant flooding across multiple areas of the city due to ongoing severe weather conditions.

Residents are strongly urged to stay off roads tonight unless absolutely necessary. Flooded roadways present serious and unpredictable dangers, including swift water movement, hidden debris, and compromised pavement.

ā€œOur priority is the safety of our residentsā€, said Mayor Percy Bland, "Weā€™re asking everyone to remain where they are, avoid travel, and allow our first responders to do their work safely and efficiently. Tonight is about safety. So stay put, stay alert, and stay safe.ā€

Emergency personnel, including police, fire and public works cruise are actively monitoring conditions and responding we needed.

City officials remind everyone:

šŸ“Do not attempt to drive through standing or moving water.

šŸ“Turn around, donā€™t drown.

šŸ“Be alert for road closures and barricades.
