Welcome to Wonderful Wednesdays! Every Wednesday, we'll be posting an uplifting fact or news story to bring some positivity to your day!
Today's Wonderful Wednesday is about the amazing Dolly Parton.
Throughout her lifetime it is estimated that she contributed approximately 600 million towards her charitable endeavors. She focused mostly on childhood literacy, healthcare, and economic development.
In 1995 Dolly started the Imagination Library. A program that provides books at no cost to kids from all socioeconomic backgrounds.
Over 304,500,000 books have been donated to children since the program started!
In the US alone, about 14% of children were receiving books from "Aunt Dolly" as Jackie's family calls her.
Dolly was not just an icon of country music, she was what we should all strive to be. Compassionate, intelligent, and a beacon of positivity in these stressful times.
While we mourn her passing, its important to remember to keep her spirit alive. Donate books, volunteer your time for literacy programs, take a second out of your day to show compassion for others.
How can you be like Dolly today?
