Happy Wednesday!
đLetâs talk about the elephant in the roomâŚrainbowsđ
How neat is it that we can take something that isnât always desired (rain), combine it with something that many people typically enjoy (sunshine), and come out with something as beautiful as a rainbow?! Think about it: when was the last time you saw a rainbow and didnât point it out to someone?
Why is that?
Itâs because theyâre interesting, a little mysterious, and very pretty to look at (which is how you should describe your significant other next time youâre asked).
Having said all that, do you know what makes a rainbow appear? Yes, itâs the sunlight combining with the raindrops. But what actually happens is quite cool.
Refraction, reflection, refraction again, color separation, then visible rainbowâŚI learned that from Google (and probably a high school teacher đ).
â¤ď¸Refraction - Sunlight is bent as it enters a water droplet
đ§ĄReflection - The light bounces off the back of the raindrop
đRefraction Again - The light changes and bends again as it leaves the raindrop
đColor separation - Think Pink Floydâs album cover; the white light separates into individual colors as itâs bent through the prism
đVisible Rainbow - This is the part where you say, âHey look, a rainbow!â
đAnd to think, all this happens within millions of individual raindrops to create the collective beauty of a rainbow.
Or think of it this way⌠A person combines with an environment.
â¤ď¸Refraction - That person grows and has different experiences as they pass through stages of life
đ§ĄReflection - They reflect on their experiences and feelings
đRefraction Again - They continue to grow and change as they understand themselves more
đColor Separation - They see the cover of Pink Floydâs Dark Side of the Moon and realize each color is beautiful and unique on its own. Itâs okay to separate, be different, or stand out
đVisible Rainbow - That person comes to find their sense of self and, if weâre lucky, theyâll openly share it with the world
đAnd to think, all this happens within millions of individual people to create the collective beauty that is the rainbow of humanity.
đWe should all be proud đ
