We're proud to recognize Des Moines County Farm Bureau President Kendra Meisgeier for serving as District 7's representative on the Iowa Farm Bureau State Resolutions Committee.

The committee plays an important role in Iowa Farm Bureau's grassroots policy process by reviewing member-identified issues, gathering feedback from county Farm Bureaus, and helping develop policy recommendations that guide the organization's advocacy efforts.

☕ Happy National Coffee Day!

Did you know coffee can't be grown in Iowa? While our farmers are busy harvesting corn and soybeans, coffee farmers in tropical regions around the world are caring for a very different crop. Agriculture looks different everywhere, but farmers everywhere share a common goal: producing the food, fiber, and fuel we rely on every day.

Today, we're grateful for the farmers both near and far who help keep our cups full and our tables stocked. 🌎🚜

Thank you to Keaton Keitzer for representing Des Moines County at the 2026 Iowa Farm Bureau Summer Policy Conference in West Des Moines.

The policies discussed during the conference don't start at the state level. They begin with conversations between Farm Bureau members right here in our counties. Through Farm Bureau's grassroots process, local ideas and concerns become policy resolutions that help guide advocacy efforts throughout the year.

We're grateful for members like Keaton who are willing to step up and help carry our county's voice to the state level. Thank you for your leadership and commitment to Iowa agriculture!

Ag in the Classroom is off to a great start at North Hill Elementary!

Miss Sarah visited first grade classrooms to share The Very Hungry Iowa Caterpillar, introducing students to Iowa agriculture and helping them discover how agriculture connects to the foods they eat each day.

She then visited second grade classes for a new lesson called Source Search. Students learned to identify the original sources of everyday products and discovered how farms, natural resources, factories, and grocery stores all work together to bring goods to consumers.

We look forward to another great year of agricultural learning with North Hill students! 🌽📚🐄

Miss Sarah recently made her very first Ag in the Classroom visit to Burlington Notre Dame!

Students in Mrs. Davis's 4th grade classroom took on an important question: Could we live a day without agriculture?

As they explored the answer, students learned that agriculture impacts much more than just the food on our plates. Through a hands-on lesson about agricultural by-products, they discovered how many everyday items trace back to farms. From clothing and crayons to medicines and personal care products, agriculture plays a role in countless parts of our daily lives.

By the end of the lesson, students realized just how difficult it would be to go a single day without agriculture and gained a greater appreciation for the farmers and agricultural products that help provide many of the things we use every day.

Thank you to Mrs. Davis and her students for welcoming Miss Sarah for her first visit to Burlington Notre Dame. We look forward to returning for more agricultural learning throughout the school year! 🌽🚜📚

It's National Honey Month, and we're giving a little recognition to some of agriculture's hardest workers: bees!

These tiny pollinators help support the growth of many crops, fruits, vegetables, and flowers while also providing us with delicious honey. Their impact on agriculture and our food supply is far greater than many people realize.

National Honey Month is a great reminder to support local beekeepers and learn more about the important role pollinators play in agriculture. Whether you're enjoying local honey, sharing it with others, or simply taking time to appreciate the work bees do, every little bit helps raise awareness.

🚜☀️ That’s a wrap on our 2026 Jefferson Street Farmers Market season!

Des Moines County Farm Bureau enjoyed spending the summer connecting with families and sharing hands-on agricultural learning opportunities at the Jefferson Street Farmers Market.

At our final market on August 6, board members Kendra Meisgeier and Dawson Brader hosted activities focused on farm and roadway safety. Kids put their observation skills to the test by identifying potential hazards in a farm scene and learned about staying safe around equipment, livestock, and work areas. Visitors also participated in a farm vehicle matching activity, sparking conversations about the importance of recognizing slow-moving vehicles and sharing the road safely during harvest season.

A huge thank you to everyone who stopped by our booth throughout the summer. We appreciate the opportunity to share agriculture's story with our community and look forward to seeing you again next year!
