Sometimes the weekends we remember most aren't the busiest ones.

A ride along the Bear Creek Greenway, a picnic at Hawthorne Park, or ice cream downtown after dinner—those end up being the memories that stick more than the big trips do.

I'll be honest—I go back and forth on this every year.

Spring means the pear orchards are in bloom (we didn't get nicknamed "Pear Blossom City" for nothing).

Summer means evening hikes up Table Rock.

Fall fills Applegate with incredible color.

Winter has a quiet side I've really come to appreciate.

Late summer here sometimes brings smoky days, so it's worth building a quick habit: check the Jackson County air quality index before heading out for a hike or spending the afternoon outside.

If you haven't already, Jackson County's emergency alert system is worth signing up for. It's one of the quickest ways to stay informed if air quality or local conditions change.
