I can provide assistance for those W2 workers who collect paychecks in the State of Washington (4.1 million eligible) to get a long term care policy that will provide a waiver on the Washington State Long Term Care Trust Act due to go into effect Jan. 1, 2022. The State plan is mandated and unless workers have an acceptable private market alternative in place by November 1, 2021, workers will have to participate in the Washington State plan.
Things have be changing rapidly, but I can provide assistance on what type of plan will meet the waiver requirements. Why does it matter? Because the State of Washington plan
Is insufficient to meet the Long Term Care needs of most workers going forward. It will only pay out $36,500 lifetime for help with mobility issues. It Doesn’t Cover Cognitive Issues. At present there is No Inflation to keep up with the cost of care over time. The State plan is Not Portable (you can only use in Washington). It requires 3 of 6 ADLs to go on claim. Private plans only require 2 to go on claim). If you live in a border state like Idaho or Oregon, but work in Washington, you will still have to participate in the plan but will receive NO LTCI BENEFIT. If you are 35, for example, and making $75,000 or more a year and planning to work 30’more years, you will pay more for the State plan than you receive in benefits. I have traditional and hybrid LTCI options for consideration depending on your circumstances. I can’t help everyone (if your health is really bad you may just have to go with the State plan. But even there, I have non insurance ancillary products that provide for hours of in-home care that could help supplement the State plan if you can’t get a waiver.
